Enjoy History and Culture

Villages, cities and castles first arose at the rivers and with them culture began to flourish. Even today, many folk songs tell about the culture along the rivers.

The "Vogelsburg" on the right side (starboards) and the "Hallburg" on the left side (portside) are signs of this culture.

The pointed "Echter" church spires of many Franconian villages mark the former domain of the Franconian prince-bishops who were great patrons of art.

For centuries, people have used the ferry between Escherndorf and Nordheim to cross the river. And even today the "Mainfähre" is important for the region.

The villages at the Main, like Köhler are still very original.
